Questions & answers
A Grant of Probate generally applies where the deceased left a valid will and the applicant is the executor named in it. Letters of Administration may be relevant where there is no valid will. Other situations need separate consideration. The appropriate application depends on the will, estate and applicant’s circumstances.
For an initial discussion, gather the death certificate, any will or codicil and information about the estate’s assets and liabilities. Identify the named executors and relevant family members. The court’s full filing requirements may include additional documents and certification; the team can explain what applies to your enquiry.
Think about your assets, the people you wish to benefit and whom you would like to appoint as executor. Tell the team about dependants, existing wills and assets outside Singapore. These are starting points for the discussion; the terms and formal requirements of a will need individual consideration.
Explain the issue you want to resolve and the important dates. Note any ongoing proceedings, existing court orders and relevant correspondence. If children or finances are involved, tell the team about those circumstances so it can identify the appropriate information to request.
