A 12-year-old boy who suffered severe injury five years ago when a taxi crashed into a railing that then fell on him secured $1.52 million in damages from the driver’s insurer. Lee Shergill LLP pushed for fair compensation, contending issues such as compensation for pain and suffering, the extent of the boy’s injuries, the impact on his future earnings and the cost of future care, among other things.
“Madam Sng’s lawyers Raj Singh Shergill and Chia Aileen successfully argued in the run-up to the settlement that the boy was aware of his plight and thus felt more acutely his limitations, which deepened his pain and suffering.”

Represented by Lee Shergill LLP, one traffic accident victim who rejected an insurer’s offer to settle the case for $250,000 went on to get some $720,000 in a rare case in the State Court. The damages awarded for pain and suffering are understood to be among the highest reported for foot injury. The award will be handed to the Public Trustee, who in turn will reimburse his lawyers from Lee Shergill LLP for $10,800 as legal fees.
“The case dispels the myth that legal fees are prohibitive or that lawyers take a large chunk of the damages from their clients,” said lawyer Raj Singh Shergill, who acted for Mr Koh.

A 70-year-old woman who suffered third-degree burns on both legs following treatment at a well-known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinic engaged Lee Shergill LLP to bring a claim and received $50,000 in damages alone, more than the initial offer of over $36,000 for both her damages and legal costs that she received from the clinic and its insurer NTUC Income Insurance Cooperative. The TCM Board eventually fined and suspended the practitioners.
“But she decided to take the claim to court through lawyer Raj Singh Shergill in October last year…. In her court papers, she claimed damages on the grounds of negligence and breach of contractual duty of reasonable care and skill.”
